Sun Lakes Chorale’s inspiration

Jan Ott

After another well-received December Holiday Concert, Chorale members are enthusiastically exploring new music and composers in preparation for their annual Spring Concert on Thursday, March 19. The next concert’s theme will be “Why We Sing,” and the group’s versatility and enthusiasm for their music will be evidenced in the varied program they will offer.

The concert will again be held at the Sun Lakes United Methodist Church on Riggs Road. Start time will be 7:00 p.m. and ticket information will be available in February. To learn more about the group and enjoy photos, readers are invited to visit www.sunlakeschorale.com.

Why does this enthusiastic group meet weekly to prepare music for you? Simply put, they love to do it. Many have been involved with music throughout their lives; they thrive in the shared atmosphere of sound and rhythm; preparing and sharing a personal, yet shared, musical experience.

A concert featuring both male and female voices (with harmonies evolving from as many as eight separate parts) offers many opportunities for listening. The results offer a myriad of pleasures and benefits; how often does one leave an event going home happier than when they came? Was it the selected songs or the special memories? Was it the voices or the intriguing blend of all the sounds? Was it the artistry of specific singers or the emotions certain songs invoked?

For most people, music is a very personal thing and this is “why singers sing” and why we all participate.
