Sun Lakes Community Theatre – March 2025

The ImproVables Will Perform at IronOaks on April 1

The ImproVables, Sun Lakes Community Theatre’s hilarious comedy improv group, will once again bring their wildly successful show to the IronOaks ballroom on Tuesday, April 1!

The show is appropriately called “April Fools,” and hijinks and laughter will abound. A delicious dinner is included in the $30 ticket price. The menu is a Taco Tuesday buffet, including marinated skirt steak, pulled chicken, flour tortillas, chips and salsa, and churros with caramel sauce. Yum! In addition, $5 margaritas will be available.

Doors will open at 5 p.m., dinner will begin at 5:30 p.m., and the show starts at 6:30 p.m. Tables are reserved, and seats are limited.

The ImproVables offer a unique brand of comedy, as every show is different. Audiences are a vital part of the show, as the improvised skits are based on suggestions and ideas from the audience. Hilarity ensues, as volunteers from the audience are sometimes included in the show. The ImproVables shows are extremely popular, as attested by recent comments from audience members: “I was laughing so hard, my face hurts,” stated one recent attendee. Another attendee exclaimed, “I was on the edge of my seat. I couldn’t wait to see what you guys were going to do next!”

Tickets go on sale Tuesday, March 4, at 10 a.m. These shows sell out quickly, so don’t delay. Buy your tickets online at www.slctinfo.com.

SLCT presents “One Acts Showcase”

From April 30 through May 4 at the San Tan Ballroom, Sun Lakes Community Theatre (SLCT) will offer three one-act plays to delight audiences. Each play will feature its own unique plot and cast.

Howard Hummel will direct A Tale of Two Spectators, by Peter Manos. This short drama/comedy follows a man and a woman as they secretly watch their respective spouses from a distance. Sitting on a bench, they observe their partners with a mixture of longing, regret, and resignation. As they converse, their words expose deep truths about love, fidelity, and the distance that can grow between people over time. It is a touching, thought-provoking piece about human connection, loneliness, and the choices that define relationships.

Kate King-Turner will direct Pandora’s Revenge, by Pat Cook. This sinister comedy takes place in the home of an older woman, Mrs. Thorndyke, who has invited an eager insurance salesman, Marvin Hanover, to write up a hefty policy for her. But panicked by the evening news and her run-down neighborhood, Mrs. Thorndyke is soon grilling Marvin like a hamburger patty, with more questions than he can answer. The dialog is fast and furious in this cat-and-mouse adventure, with Marvin wondering who’s the cat and who’s the mouse, and it ends with Mrs. Thorndyke sitting in the catbird seat.

Sandy Pallet is directing The Naked Man on the Couch, by Richard Davis, a one-act comedy performed at SLCT’s outdoor theatre production of Laughter Is the Best Medicine in 2020. This hilarious comedy features three roommates ready for an adventure in Las Vegas, but they hit a snag when they discover a mysterious man has taken up residence on their couch—and, apparently, he has no clothing on! Along with the police, a dead cat, and Elvis Presley, the women figure out a plan that’s a winning solution for everyone.

Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, April 2, at www.slctinfo.com, and in-person sales begin the same day. Visit the website for more information or call 480-382-6290.
