Sun Lakes Community Theatre – November 2025

We Have Fun!

October was a month of manning the table at the three HOA Community Open Houses in Sun Lakes. Sun Lakes Community Theatre (SLCT) always has a presence at these events, and we love to answer questions about what we do and who we are. People are often shocked to hear how much goes on within our organization and are surprised to hear that we have more than 100 members with various skills, talents, and interests.

We’re more than just our three productions per year. We also have our much-treasured Children’s Theatre, the folks who don Dr. Seuss character costumes and entertain 1st grade students, along with providing class-related study guides to enhance their learning. And, of course, there is our comedy improv troupe, The ImproVables, who not only do shows in each of the HOAs but also for the Chandler Senior Center twice a year. Oh, and don’t forget the event that SLCT sponsors—inviting all residents or relatives of residents to “show their stuff” at our annual dinner and Variety Show for two evenings in the spring at Sun Lakes Country Club.

But it’s also our camaraderie at the monthly meetings, our Holiday Fun dinner and dancing night, our workshops and classes offered periodically, and the friendships that all these things foster that make Sun Lakes Community Theatre such a fun organization to be involved with.

So, if you find you have some time on your hands and you’d like to do something different and have fun doing it, check us out! Visit www.slctinfo.com to see more about this unique and wonderful organization, or come to a meeting. You’ll be welcomed with open arms.

Jo Berlin and Jess Alberts kept giving “more” action in SLCT’s Fall Into Laughter show.

Fall Into Laughter Show

The recent Fall Into Laughter improv show was well-received by the audience. Held in the Navajo Room at Sun Lakes Country Club, the patrons seemed to really enjoy the spacious layout and the proximity to the improv actors. A new addition to the group, Herman Young, was a hit. The ImproVables also appeared in their Fourth Annual Halloween Show at Cottonwood’s Saguaro Room on Oct. 29. A Valentine’s Day show is in the works as well.

Every show has unique entertainment, because suggestions are taken from the audience. The location for the skit, the professions of the actors, and the relationships between them—the audience members may decide all of these. The improv members must think on their feet and come up with on-the-spot personalities to make the skits believable.

SLCT Receives Grant from Arizona Commission on the Arts

Sun Lakes Community Theatre (SLCT) was recently awarded $2,360 in funding from the Arizona Commission on the Arts. “ACA’s support is critical to so many nonprofits,” said SLCT President Kate King-Turner. “We appreciate that SLCT is one of them.”

The funds received will assist SLCT in maintaining high standards in set design and building. Materials and building expertise are costly items in the theater world.

ACA is supported by Arizona Citizens for the Arts, an organization that promotes arts-friendly public policy at the state level and in local communities. More than 100 arts organizations and more than 5,000 individuals comprise the Arizona Citizens for the Arts. Public funding for arts helps all communities enjoy great entertainment that might otherwise never come about.

SLCT is grateful to the Arizona Commission on the Arts for its long-standing support.
