Sun Lakes – Cottonwood Palo Verde at Sun Lakes

Message from the President

Roger Beagle

Now that November is here, overseeding of the golf courses and common areas is complete. The golf courses are open, and homeowners are experiencing great playing conditions. A big thank you to Scott Anderson, Fidel Ramirez, Kale Zimmerman, and all our employees for their extra hard work this past month.

Updates to the Palo Verde bar and restaurant are now complete. Marshall Reichert and his staff are very proud of the changes that were made. Congratulations—it looks great!

Our great recreation manager for the past 21 years, Linda Caton, has retired. She has given our community enjoyment with planning shows, women’s coffees, and many fun events. She will be greatly missed but will always be remembered as “Our Linda.”

Jean Jones is our new recreation manager. Congratulations Jean—we look forward to the entertainment and events ahead.

Some ongoing community improvements include:

• Construction is progressing at the Computer Learning Center and new meeting rooms located in the old Fitness Center building. The interior will have a lecture hall, stained glass art studio, computer lab, meeting rooms, storage, and bathrooms. As a reminder, be careful when you walk near the construction site. All work is on the interior of the building. Please do not enter the building at any time. Access doors are for construction workers and authorized personnel only.

• The Palo Verde pump station on hole 9 of the golf course has been completed with new pumps and the exterior housing of the pumps.

At our August board meeting, the board approved remodeling of the old Fitness Center, aka Computer Learning Center (CLC) Project. Included in the construction costs are remediation of termite damage, roof and ceiling repairs, leveling of the concrete slab, lighting, technology wiring throughout, flooring, cabinets, tables, and chairs. Total project cost is $1,200,949.

Our community received donations for this project of $288,500 from an anonymous donor, plus an additional $75,000 from our Voluntary Contribution Fund. The total donated amount is $363,500, or 30% of the total project cost. The project is to be funded by a split of 60% Capital Improvement Funds and 40% Capital Reserve Funds. There will be no homeowner assessment for this project.

Our community will be greatly served by this project adding much needed additional meeting rooms and freeing our now used meeting rooms for additional usage. Input was received from the Facilities and Grounds Committee, interested homeowners, clubs, and management. I wish to thank everyone for the information provided. Our community will be very proud of the finished building.

Please continue enjoying our amenities and remember to be respectful of others. Continue to stay safe and healthy! I look forward to seeing everyone around the community.
