The state of SLCC – annual president’s report

Janice Cournoyer, Board President

One of the duties of the president, as defined in our current bylaws, is giving a report at the annual meeting that summarizes the activities of the association for the previous 12 months. Even though today’s agenda lists this as the President’s Report, it most certainly is not my report; it’s a report of the accomplishments of the board as a whole, management and the community over the past 12 months. I just get to be the bearer of the good news.

The past 12 months have seen substantial growth in our restricted funds. The Reserve Fund, used to repair or replace the assets of the community, grew by 15%, and the BCI Fund, used for improvements to our community, among other things, grew by 27%. The Operating Fund is maintaining the required 30 days cash on hand to cover day-to-day operating expenses – all done while keeping our annual dues stable for the past three years.

Twenty-five motions were presented to the board for approval by management over the year. All 25 passed. Having no motions tabled is a testament to the diligence of our management team, only presenting motions to the board that have been thoroughly researched with ample information supplied so we can make informed decisions and spend the association’s money wisely.

In September of 2016, the much-anticipated pickleball courts opened for the enjoyment of our members and a well-attended Grand Opening was held in January of this year. Some of the other large projects completed include the remodel of the Arizona Room for the Sunset Grill restaurant and large events, the releveling of the front nine tees boxes on the golf course, adding an ADA ramp to the main pool area and beautiful new patio furniture at Mulligan’s. The Oasis Pool project began in February and will continue in stages throughout the year. Members can look forward to many other improvements to the common areas this year, including the releveling of the back nine tees boxes, new furniture for both the Arizona Room and the lobby, covered parking with solar panels in the west parking lot and a remodel of both the men’s and women’s fitness centers.

In addition to all these projects, on March 1, a mailing went out to all members seeking their consent to approve the restated bylaws and CC&R’s. Discussions about revising these documents began six years ago, and the draft document was finally approved by the board on January 31 of this year. Even though this project is not something homeowners can physically see, it is one of the most important things we can do for our community, for now and for the future.

I would like to thank my fellow directors, the management team and the volunteers who serve on our committees for accomplishing so much in the past year. It has been an honor to serve as your president, and I look forward to another great year.
