Message from the General Manager
Kelly Haynes, General Manager
When people drive through our community in search of their next home, do they think of Sun Lakes as having pride of ownership? Does it show when someone looks at your house? The term “pride of ownership” sums up what I feel is most important in any community. You don’t have to have a fancy house or a lot of money to show your personal pride of ownership. Clean, manicured yards, keeping the paint on your house touched up or repainted every so many years, and making sure patios and carports are clear of boxes and debris are all actions homeowners can take to show pride of ownership and to be a good neighbor. We know that what one neighbor does (or doesn’t do) to the exterior of their home may very well have an effect on their neighbor.
Homeowners have certain rights. They have a right to expect a responsive and competent community association, they have the right to honest and fair treatment by community leaders and managers, and they also have the right to live in a community where association property is maintained according to established standards. Homeowners also have certain responsibilities, which are communicated to them when they purchase their home in Sun Lakes. They have the responsibility to treat their leaders with honesty and respect, pay association assessments on time, and they also have a responsibility to maintain their own property according to the same standards as the association. Our governing documents (available on our website) outline the rules by which we all must live. But really, we should all want to live by the rules. It not only makes us better homeowners and neighbors, but it protects our property values and overall makes our Sun Lakes community a very nice place to live.
Happenings at the Library
For those who truly appreciate great literature, classics are at the top of many lists. The Sun Lakes Country Club Library has a Nostalgia section of books located to the right of the fireplace. You might find that classic you have been wanting to read or re-read in this section.
Some movies are known as “chick flicks” or “rom coms” (romantic comedies). Classic literature can be very romantic. The comedy aspect is often based on the perspective of the reader. Social status and mores during the times when many of the classics were written are entirely different now.
Literary heroines stand out in numerous classics. Strong, intelligent, and spunky women have inspired generations of booklovers. Jane Austen was a master of this genre. Her Elizabeth Bennet in Pride and Prejudice and Eleanor Dashwood in Sense and Sensibility are two examples. Charlotte Bronte gave us Jane Eyre and Nathaniel Hawthorne created Hester Prynne in The Scarlet Letter. And, for the fun of it, remember Moll Flanders by Daniel Defoe.
Look for these classics and many others in our Nostalgia section. Also, of note, we now have a copy of The Wright Brothers by David McCullough in our new arrivals. Men, maybe this would be your cup of tea. Stop by our library soon.
Read It and Recycle It. Thank you.
