A message from the General Manager: A new year, a fresh beginning
Kelly Haynes
As a new year approaches, many of us take time to reflect on the events of the past year, while we look forward to all of the opportunities the new one may provide. A new year is like a clean slate, an opportunity for new triumphs and successes. It is a wonderful thing to consider, since there are endless possibilities. We are taught early on that we should live with the idea that we live in a give and take environment, but in today’s society there are some people who are more likely to take than give. This is the perfect time to take a moment to think about your community, and the perfect time to look for ways that you can give back to your fellow man (or woman). Make 2016 your year to give – if you are already volunteering your time for some good cause, or helping your elderly or disabled neighbor, or just in general supporting your HOA and the amenities it provides, then encourage others to give as well. You can do this by sharing with them the personal rewards you gain from being involved. There are still vacant positions on HOA committees, and there are a myriad of ways that your support would make the company move forward in a positive and helpful manner. We all know that the feeling we get from giving far surpasses the satisfaction received by taking or simply not giving. Instead of chasing your own peace, be peace to others, and peace will come to you. Let’s work together to promote goodwill and cheer in 2016, and see what we can accomplish. Happy New Year.
Happenings at the SLCC Library

When visiting the Sun Lakes Country Club library, you will notice a section called Nostalgia. One definition of nostalgia is a wistful or sentimental yearning for a return to a previous period of time. Books in this section were formerly called The Classics. Classic literary works have lasting artistic significance and acknowledged excellence. By changing the name of this collection to Nostalgia, many long-time favorite novels and classics can be found grouped together.
You will find a wide variety of titles in this section. You many see a book you read years ago and the memory of it still makes you nostalgic. Or maybe you notice a book you have always planned to read. Well, as they say, now is that time.
Here are a few of the books currently available: Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell, Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy, East of Eden by John Steinbeck, and The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. You will also find The Iliad and The Odyssey by Homer, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and The Adventures of Huck Finn by Mark Twain, Exodus by Leon Uris, and a number of books by James Michener. There are five lovely books of poetry; let the love poems of Elizabeth Barrett Browning stir your heart. If this list excites you, these are just a few of the many titles available right now. Remember, when you borrow a book from our Library, please return it as quickly as possible so that the next book lover can get excited, too.
New arrivals in our library include Cross Justice by James Patterson, The Promise by Robert Crais, Robert B Parker’s The Devil Wins, a Jesse Stone novel, The Cartel by Don Winslow, Missoula: Rape and the Justice System in a College Town by Jon Krakaur, Who Do You Love? by Jennifer Weiner, and It’s a Long Story by Willie Nelson.
Donations are always welcome. Read it and recycle it!
Thank you.
