Sun Lakes Democratic Club news

The May meeting will be held on Monday, May 8, 2017, at 7:00 p.m. in the Navajo Room at the Sun Lakes Country Club, 25601 E. Sun Lakes Blvd. N.

Adrian Fontes, the newly-elected Maricopa County Recorder, will be guest speaker for the May meeting.

Mr. Fontes, angered by the fiasco of the 2016 Presidential Preference Primary, decided to run for the County Recorder’s office. Mr. Fontes, a former Marine, was offended that voters were standing in lines for hours. Many who wanted to vote gave up and didn’t vote. Voter protections and voter rights are what he defended in his service to America.

In a close election, Mr. Fontes defeated Helen Purcell, who did not have a Democratic challenger since 1988. Mr. Fontes will address the current state of the Recorder’s Office and plans for the upcoming elections in 2017 and 2018.

The Sun Lakes Democratic Club collects non-perishable food items for Matthew’s Crossing Food Bank. Please bring your contributions to the Drop-Off Area in the west parking lot from 6:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The club collected 135 pounds of food in March, along with cash donations of $45.00. We appreciate all you do.

Everyone is welcome to attend the Sun Lakes Democratic Club meeting, held the second Monday of the month. Light refreshments are served.
