Sun Lakes Democrats to Host State and Congressional Candidates

Dwight Flatt

The Sun Lakes Democratic Club (SLDC) invites members and area Democrats to its Feb. 9 monthly meeting where attendees will hear directly from Democratic candidates seeking statewide and congressional office.

Featured speakers for the evening will include Nick Mansour, candidate for Arizona State Treasurer. Mansour, a third-generation Arizonan with engineering and MBA degrees from Stanford University, will discuss his campaign for the four-year term as State Treasurer. As an entrepreneur, he is Chairman and CEO of the Arizona College of Nursing, one of Arizona’s largest nursing schools.

Elizabeth Lee is a candidate vying to serve Arizona in the U.S. House of Representatives, running to fill the seat being vacated by Rep. Andy Biggs (R) in Congressional District CD5. Lee, a nurse and first-time candidate, will touch upon healthcare, education, and accountability in government.

Also running for the U.S. House but in CD1 is Mark Robert Gordon, an election/law and civil rights attorney. CD1 has been one of the most competitive U.S. House districts in the state and is crucial to flipping the House in 2026. Gordon will address what it will mean if this district changes hands.

Making return visits include Kristie O’Brian seeking the Democratic nomination in Arizona Senate, Legislative District LD13, and Dr. Racquel “Rockee” Armstrong running for the Arizona House in LD13. O’Brien, a lawyer specializing in mediation, grew up in Chandler and honed her skills on Capitol Hill and at the International Criminal Court at the Hague.

Dr. Armstrong, who worked five years as a public school teacher and later as a school administrator, earned her PhD from Ohio State University and now serves as an Assistant Professor at ASU’s Mary Lou Fulton College for Teaching and Learning Innovation. Both will address their campaigns and their priorities for representing LD13.

Club members can also expect drop-ins from other Democratic candidates running in the 2026 Primary and General Elections. This is a valuable opportunity to meet candidates face-to-face and ask questions. The meeting will be held on Monday, Feb. 9, in the Navajo Room at Sun Lakes Country Club, 25601 E. Sun Lakes Blvd. N. A social hour begins at 6:30 p.m., followed by the program at 7 p.m.

SLDC represents more than 2,500 registered Democrats in Sun Lakes and advocates for an Arizona that works for everyone. Club members are also invited to the First Friday Coffee, held at 10 a.m. on the first Friday of each month at Denny’s, 4977 S. Arizona Avenue, Chandler—an opportunity to connect with like-minded neighbors.

The club proudly supports Matthew’s Crossing Food Bank. Donations of non-perishable food items will be accepted at the meeting, or contributions can be made online. Donors may request a receipt for the dollar-for-dollar tax-deductible contribution.
