Sun Lakes Duplicate Bridge Is Now Active!

Karin Hansen

After more than a year of social distancing, the Sun Lakes Duplicate Bridge Club is now back, and participants are actively playing in-person as well as online. There are some new requirements for playing face-to-face bridge: First-time players must present proof of COVI-19 vaccination or immunity and sign a waiver of liability prior to playing. Visit the website www.bridgewebs.com/SunLakes duplicate bridge for more information about procedures and other details about the club. Information about registering for virtual games is also on the website.

Games are open to both residents and non-residents of Sun Lakes. Dues to join the Bridge Club for 2021 are only $5. Members who paid dues for 2020 will not be charged for 2021. Please contact Eileen Utter at [email protected] for information. All Sun Lakes Bridge in-person games are held at Risen Savior Lutheran Church at 23914 S. Alma School Road. Regular game fees are $7 for members of the club and $8 for non-members. Online game fees are $6 per person.

Each week during June on Thursday mornings at 8:15 a.m., a special game is held for those with less than 99 American Contract Bridge League masterpoints. This is a teaching game, and individual assistance is provided during the bidding phase of the game. Director Maria Davis provides a mini-lesson, and then the bridge hands are geared toward the lesson. Contact Maria Davis at [email protected] for more information. You do not need to come with a partner to this game. We encourage established players who are beyond the novice level to bring a friend to introduce them to the game.

Not quite ready to play bridge? Have you forgotten some basics during the long absence? Beginning and refresher lessons are being offered all summer by qualified instructors from the Sun Lakes Bridge Club. Look for the Splash article elsewhere in this paper or contact [email protected] for information.

The new weekly bridge schedule is as follows:

* Monday, 9:30 a.m., 0-499 online virtual game on BBO

* Monday, 1:30 p.m., open in-person game

* Tuesday, 1:30 p.m., open in-person game and limited 0-499 game

* Wednesday, 12:50 p.m., 0-750 online virtual game on BBO

* Thursday 8:15 a.m., 0-99 in-person novice game.

* Thursday, 1:30 p.m., in-person open game and limited 0-499 game

* Friday, 12:50 p.m., 0-299 and 300-1999 online virtual games on BBO

* Saturday, 9 a.m., in-person open game and limited 0-499 game

It is suggested that you arrive at least 30 to 40 minutes and no later than 15 minutes before the in-person games. Sun Lakes directors will run both the virtual and online games and need your cooperation to start in a timely manner. All games, except the Thursday morning novice game, require a partner. If you need assistance in finding a partner, send an email to [email protected].

We look forward to welcoming you to the Bridge Club!
