Pauline Lee

On the morning of December 5 our club members visited the Singh Farm in Phoenix to appreciate how an organic farm makes use of landscape discards to make compost and nitrogen fixating roots of many Mesquite and Palo Verde trees to nourish the vegetable gardens without adding any chemical fertilizers. The great variety of fresh vegetables were harvested early that same day. Our members returned home loaded with luscious, healthy produce for food and compost for their gardens.

We are starting our new year meeting with preparation for planting perennials, roses and shrubs. A Master Gardener from the Cooperative Extension’s Master Gardeners Speakers Bureau will give us tips on plant selection and soil preparation. This timely subject will help both new and veteran Sun Lakes gardeners to make good plant choices for various sun exposures and microclimates and to prepare the planting sites appropriately.

Our meeting will be 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 19 at Chapel House in Sun Lakes Country Club. Everyone is welcome.
