During April, our club had two extra activities besides our usual monthly meeting. On April 8, our club members enjoyed a morning tour to five Sun Lakes gardens, each being different in size, utility and ambience. Each garden was beautifully developed by the homeowner whose artistry and creativity were amazingly different from one another. Seeing the different possibilities to create varied environments in these gardens, we were inspired to try new ideas in our own gardens. On April 11, we toured the rose garden with 8000 bushes at Mesa Community College. We took many pictures of the roses and hoped one of them will be a winner in our photo contest. In our monthly meeting, speaker Josh Waltemeyer brought colorful plants and presented possibilities in decorating our yards during the summer with colorful flowers on the ground or in containers.
Our speaker for the May 16 meeting will be James Schaub. James will speak about irrigation in our home gardens. Being a graduate of the smartscape school, he has worked over two decades in commercial and residential landscape construction and maintenance in Arizona. Before moving to Sun Lakes last year, he was a supervisor at Gainey Ranch in Scottsdale. James likes to think he is on a special mission to maintain God’s Ark, our earth. His mission is to keep plants in healthy conditions. He is the owner of Ladybug Landscape Services.
