The next meeting of the Sun Lakes Garden Club (SLGC) will be held at the Chapel Center, 9240 N. Sun Lakes Blvd., across from the Sun Lakes Country Club on Monday, July 7 at 9:30 a.m. The July program will be “Flower Arranging and How to Keep them Fresh;” the speaker is still to be determined.
On June 2 Scott Sjolin, manager of the Ed Robson Library and Patty Dennehy, programming, gave a short talk telling about some of what the library has to offer, as well as past and upcoming events. Visit the website at www.mcldaz.org.
The main presentation was “Salsa Gardening with Herbs,” specifically how to plant a container garden with all plants necessary to make an award winning salsa, by Lee Ann Aronson, University of Arizona Master Gardener. She gave tips for selecting and caring for tomatoes and solving tomato challenges. She talked about the growing seasons, fertilizer and good and bad pests. She also spoke about growing chilies, garlic, onions, cilantro and the different types of wonderful herbs such as lemon basil, lemon thyme, lemon grass and spearmint. She had some sample plants which members could taste. Her recipe can be found on our website at www.sunlakesgardenclub.com.
