Sun Lakes Garden Club plans upcoming trips

A members-only Holiday Party will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 10, which will replace the regularly-scheduled meeting on the third Tuesday of the month. The party will be held at the beautiful Poolside at Oakwood, and members will enjoy a gourmet meal and games from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tickets were purchased in advance.

The club field trip for November was a Tour de Trees; a guided walking-tour of the East Campus of ASU, including lunch at Engrained Café on campus. The club toured the West Campus last year and saw a Cork tree from Portugal, a Frankincense tree, a Melaleuca bush, and peanuts growing, among others.

The first field trip of the new year will be a return trip to Southwest Gardener on Jan. 7, departing at 9:30 a.m. from the club carpool location. This field trip is limited to 25 members, and it filled up in June, so this will give the “snowbirds” an opportunity to go. Members will have a private welcome and tour by the owners, showing all of the amazing garden art from select vendors. The owners also offer members a 15% field trip shopping discount. After shopping, the members will enjoy a delicious lunch in the historic Southern Rail Restaurant next door, followed by a private class behind the shop beginning at 1 p.m. The Do-It-Yourself class is $20 for the room, instructor, and materials. This project is creating two whimsical flying bugs to adorn houseplants or patio pots. It’s a fun day to make friends while being creative. The carpools will arrive back in Sun Lakes around 3:30 p.m.

Guests and members are welcome from any city and any skill level. Dues are $20 per year and $10 additional for a second member in the same household. To join online on our secure PayPal account or for information about our club, go to SunLakesGardenClub.org.
