August 18 Meeting to Feature Noah Johnson of Bartlett Tree Experts
The Sun Lakes Garden Club invites members and visitors to attend its upcoming meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 18. Visitors are always welcome.
The featured speaker will be Noah Johnson, a Certified Arborist with Bartlett Tree Experts. Johnson brings extensive professional experience as an arborist climber, crew leader, licensed pesticide applicator, and plant health care specialist.
During the meeting, he will present an informative PowerPoint program and answer gardening and tree-care questions from club members and guests.
Field Trips
The Sun Lakes Garden Club meets throughout the year on the third Tuesday of each month and ordinarily schedules one field trip each month. During Arizona’s hottest summer months, outdoor nursery and garden tours may be replaced with visits to indoor plant and herb shops, museums, garden-art projects, and other indoor activities.
At the Aug. 18 meeting, members may sign up for a fun Bonsai creating class, taught by club member Wendell Orr. The class will be on the following Tuesday, Aug. 25, where attendees will take home their own bonsai they’ve created!
On July 28, members enjoyed a special Patriotic Potluck commemorating the 250th birthday of the United States. The meeting room was decorated in festive red, white, and blue, and members dressed in patriotic colors.
A short video was shown on the large-screen television, followed by a lively discussion in which members shared their recent gardening successes and challenges. The indoor celebration replaced the club’s usual outdoor field trip because of the triple-digit summer temperatures.
