Sun Lakes Jewish Congregation

Allan Levy, Publicity Director

The Sun Lakes Jewish Congregation (SLJC) is an established reform congregation that meets at the Sun Lakes Chapel on the second Friday of the month from September through June. In July and August, a rabbinic led twilight service is held in the Sun Lakes Chapel at 5:30 p.m. Services are a great opportunity to meet new people, connect with Judaism and learn. New attendees are invited to be introduced at the service and members of the congregation connect with these attendees. Oneg Shabbats are held immediately after our services at Sun Lakes Country Club from September through June. Everyone is invited to attend. The services and Oneg’s are a great place to meet members, ask questions and learn more about our congregation.

SLJC celebrated Sukkot/Simchas Torah. The SLJC Men’s Club erected a sukkah and a celebration was held which included a Havdalah service. A light dinner was provided.

On November 26, the congregation celebrated the Bar Mitzvah of the Wieners’ grandson, Colin Marx. The service and celebration included friends, family and the congregation. Mazel Tov to Colin and his family and to Rabbi and Sandi Wiener on this wonderful milestone.

A series of adult education programs will be launched in early January including a class on Hebrew reading and writing. There will be a four-week lecture series entitled, “The Proof of God,” given by Rabbi Wiener. Another class led by the Rabbi is titled, “Current Event Topics Relating to Israel, Islamic Extremism, Terrorism, Their Origins and Intent.” Our Cantor, Ronda Polesky, and Rabbi Wiener will hold a series of classes for adults, “Becoming Bar/Bat Mitzvah.” Class dates will be announced in the coming weeks.

The SLJC singles group Havurah Chai encourages singles to join them and make new friends by taking part in their fabulous events. We have our own tables at the Oneg after Shabbat Services and rides are available for events.
