Sun Lakes Jewish Congregation Sisterhood

Esther Spear

The next meeting of the Sun Lakes Jewish Congregation Sisterhood will take place on Thursday, Jan. 16, at 1 p.m. in the Chapel Center. The guest speaker will be Sandor Lubisch, a member of our congregation, who will speak about his newest book, Yitzhak’s Escape: The Jewish Flight to Uzbekistan. The historical fiction book is based on the true story of the author’s maternal family who lived in a small Eastern Polish town whose residents were faced with the sudden invasion of the Nazis in 1941.

Our annual charity event, formerly known as Card Party, is now called Games Galore to include Mah Jongg, bridge, canasta, Scrabble, Mexican Train, poker, Rummikub, and any other table game that you like to play. It will take place on Monday, Feb. 24, at 10 a.m. at Oakwood Country Club in Sun Lakes. In addition to a delicious buffet lunch, we will have our signature gift baskets, cash raffle, and tantalizing treats at our bake sale.

For well over a decade, we have sponsored events to benefit local charities in and around our area, such as but not limited to Matthew’s Crossing Food Bank, Sun Lakes Fire Department, Neighbors Who Care, and female veterans organizations. Tell your friends to create a group, or come solo and we’ll match you with others who like to play your favorite game. Lunch seating is limited to groups of five, so you may have to reserve several tables for large groups. The registration deadline is Feb. 10. For reservations or questions, call Carol at 480-895-3168.
