Sun Lakes Ladies Coffee Hour to feature fashion show

A fashion show from one of the top thrift shops in the East Valley will be presented to the residents of Sun Lakes at 10:30 a.m. on January 3 at the Sun Lakes Ladies Coffee Hour. Members of Assistance League of East Valley will model clothing and jewelry from the shop at the Cottonwood Country Club ballroom.

The monthly gathering is open to all Sun Lakes residents and their friends. Participants can enjoy refreshments and a raffle while they visit with friends and meet new people.

Narrating the fashion show will be 95-year-old Lois Katzin, a former model who volunteers at the thrift shop cash register each Tuesday morning. Assistance League members also will give a presentation about their group.

Named one of the best resale shops in Chandler, the Assistance League of East Valley thrift shop is located at 2326 N. Alma School Road in Chandler, north of Warner Road. It is staffed completely by volunteers and features a wide variety of fashionable adult and children’s clothing, housewares, furniture, fabrics, books and jewelry. Hours are 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday.

Assistance League of East Valley provides new clothing for about 7,000 needy schoolchildren in the East Valley each year, as well as college scholarships, school supplies, parties at an adult day care center and assault survivor kits for use by hospitals and fire departments.

The organization’s annual fund-raising event will be held in Sun Lakes this year, a Mardi Gras Casino Night on February 24 at Oakwood Country Club. The event will include table games, bingo, a live auction and dinner.

Assistance League welcomes new members and volunteers, as well as donations of any kind. Almost 20 women from Sun Lakes are currently active in the group. For more information on the organization or its events, go to or call 480-792-1600.
