Sun Lakes Lutheran Church Celebrates Its 10th Anniversary of Worship Jan. 30, 2020

Marty Garrison

Jan. 30, 2010, a fledgling mission of Mountain View Lutheran Church in Ahwatukee met in the Sun Lakes Chapel for its first worship service. Pastor David Harr led the worship service, and Sandy Anderson was the pianist. The worshipers totaled 11. Over the next years, membership has increased, and activities were added:

Fellowship with refreshments following the morning worship service; Bible Study monthly then weekly; Phoebe Circle, a ladies group with a focus on service to the community in addition to our members; Pastor and lay members doing home visits and serving Holy Communion to any individual in need or desiring a visit; Soup and Scripture during Lent; and Congregational potlucks and picnics.

During this time, three pastors have served in a full-time capacity: Pastor David Harr, Pastor Dale Hallberg, and presently, Pastor Nathan Bowman.

Areas that the members assist in worship are altar setup, flowers, greeters, ushers, readers, communion assistants, and fellowship preparation. Each area is always looking for volunteers.

Worship is each Sunday morning at 8 a.m. in the Sun Lakes Chapel, 9240 E. Sun Lakes Blvd N. Fellowship follows worship in the Chapel Center, next door to the Chapel.

Phoebe Circle meets the second Monday of each month at members’ homes. For more information, please contact Laura Larson at [email protected].

Soup and Scripture will meet on Wednesday, March 4, at 5 p.m. in the Chapel Center. For more information, please contact Alan Schoeneman at [email protected].

We welcome all who may be looking for a church home, either as a full-time resident, a winter visitor, or short-time visitor to the Sun Lakes area.
