Sun Lakes residents are partnering with local law enforcement to build a safer, more connected community. A Neighborhood Watch program is a community-based initiative where residents work together to monitor and report suspicious activities in their area. Members receive training on recognizing suspicious behavior, reporting incidents, alerting their neighbors, and taking measures to deter crime (such as installing outdoor lights and cameras).
The Sun Lakes community is comprised mainly of 55+ residents. Many of these residents are vulnerable or at risk, such as the elderly, the disabled, or the neighbors who live alone and who could benefit from additional support and communication that a Neighborhood Watch provides. Homeowners should avoid direct confrontation with suspects and always prioritize personal safety. Additionally, it is important to stay informed about local laws and to work closely with law enforcement to maintain legitimacy and effectiveness.
Steps to take if you become a victim of a crime in Sun Lakes:
1. Call 911 and file a police report,
2. Contact your local patrol and file an incident report,
3. Post the incident on the Sun Lakes Neighborhood Watch group page, and
4. Tell your surrounding neighbors.
We had a great response during the three Open Houses in October. It gave people a chance to meet our volunteers, sign up, and pick up some information for their neighborhoods.
Sun Lakes Neighborhood Watch Group needs you. We are actively seeking volunteers to plan events and/or reach out to neighbors. Join us on Nextdoor.com and attend our next event! We are planning some fun community block parties in the future. Be sure and sign up to join our group so you don’t miss a thing.
