Rev. Jennifer Lambert, Sun Lakes United Methodist Church
December arrives in Sun Lakes with its own kind of beauty. While we may not have snowy sidewalks or frosted pine trees, we do have something just as meaningful: warm, golden mornings; quiet desert sunsets; and a community that gathers thoughtfully during this season of light.
This time of year can stir many emotions. For some, it’s joyful—filled with the excitement of family visits, holiday traditions, and cherished memories. For others, it can be a time of longing, loneliness, or grief, especially when loved ones are far away or no longer with us. Many in our community carry both joy and sorrow at the same time. And that’s okay. The holidays can hold more than one truth.
At Sun Lakes United Methodist Church, we believe one of the most meaningful gifts we can give one another is presence—the simple act of showing up. Not perfect words. Not perfect traditions. Just presence.
Presence looks like:
• Sharing a meal with a neighbor.
• Sending a card to someone who crosses your mind.
• Holding silence with a friend who can’t find the right words.
• Welcoming someone new to the table.
This December, our worship centers on the Advent theme of hope, peace, joy, and love. Each week, we light a candle as a reminder that even a small light can make a difference.
We’ll celebrate the season with music that stirs the heart, familiar Scripture that comforts the soul, and a spirit of welcome for everyone—whether faith is central to your life, complicated, or something you’re still figuring out. You are always invited.
If the holiday season feels joyful for you, may your joy be full. If the holiday season feels tender, may you know you are not alone.
Wherever you find yourself this December, may you discover moments of rest, kindness, and light.
