The Heart of the Matter

Rover’s Rest Stop began over 25 years ago with the firm belief that it is all about the Kids (dogs). Through the years we have strived to match each Kid’s needs with the family needs, work through any issues to help the Kids be the best they can be, assist the community when a Kid needs saving, and give a forever home to those that are overlooked. We always, for any reason, take our Kids back when needed. We promise to be there for the life of the Kid.

Rover’s Rest Stop supports the community, always willing to lend a helping hand. Our Emergency Program gives you peace of mind while in the hospital or dealing with other urgent matters. Our boarding, which includes pickup and return, is sometimes referred to as ‘going to Grandma’s’ … the Kids have so much fun with cousins, new friends, and lots of activity. The Kids participate in any Sun Lakes activity that allows them to, they especially love the events in the greenbelt/lake areas.

We receive many comments of how happy the families are but we recently received this message in writing—and want to share.

“We’ve all been there. You’re dropping by the pet supply superstore just to pick up fish food. You walk through the door and there are puppies everywhere—it’s an adoption event. An hour later you walk out with a puppy you couldn’t resist, a puppy you hadn’t planned to get, a puppy you’re not ready for. What could possibly go wrong?

A puppy, or even an older dog, is a lifelong commitment. It’s almost like choosing a mate. And that’s just the way Dee at Rover’s Rest Stop approaches the process. It’s not just about finding the dog a home, it’s about finding the right match for a lifelong home.

In my case, Dee took a lot of time listening to me, hearing about my lifestyle, understanding what I was looking for in a dog. She introduced me to six or eight dogs at her adoption event and later brought the top three candidates to my home for a second meet and greet. Dee steered me away from the first dog I “fell in love with” recognizing that dog would not be a good fit for me.

The result? I ended up with the perfect dog for me. Chanel, a 2-year-old Shih Tzu, is small enough for me to handle under all circumstances. She’s fun and playful, but she mostly just wants to be with me—the perfect companion dog. Yet she’s ok to be left alone for a couple hours while I socialize with friends. She’s beautifully trained. The perfect match. The perfect dog for me. I have found my dog soulmate thanks to Rover’s Rest Stop and Dee’s helpful guidance.”

Rover’s Kids absolutely love to have visitors on the second Saturday of every month from 9 a.m. to noon in Cottonwood, Room A-7. Need more information? Contact us at 480-600-2828.
