Maria Davis
I have been a Sjogren’s (SHOW-grins) patient since 2004. I am particularly excited about this year’s event, since people can participate wherever they are across the country! The local Sjogren’s Walks have been nationalized this year, and the walk date is May 16—but you can walk whenever you want, or just wear the T–shirt, or make a donation! What is Sjogren’s? Sjögren’s is a systemic autoimmune disease that affects the entire body. It is the second most common autoimmune disease, affecting as many as four million Americans, with upwards of 74,000 people in Arizona alone. Who will be walking? Sjögren’s patients, family members, friends, caregivers, health care professionals and walk enthusiasts will support the Sjögren’s Foundation, to raise awareness and funds for research and patient outreach. Where do I walk? Participants will walk wherever they are, in their neighborhood, or nearby park, or wherever they choose. No need to go downtown or anywhere in particular. When is it? Saturday, May 16, 9 a.m. Mountain Time. or you can also choose your own walk date/time! What about walk teams? You can join my Sun Lakes walk team, called All Aces, form your own team, or register solo at walkforsjogrens.org/home.
