The Ocotillo Women’s League (OWL) annual Fashion Show fundraising event sailed to new heights on Jan. 26, as the sold-out, cruise-themed luncheon welcomed members and guests to the Oakwood Country Club ballroom. As we pulled up anchor, dancers from the Fred Astaire Dance Studio (Chandler) opened the event performing to the music of Frankie Ford’s 1959 hit “Sea Cruise.” The ballroom was filled with excited passengers as we set sail into the spring release of online retailer CABI Fashions. OWL models were escorted by “Captain Joe” as CABI rep. Lisa O’Hearn showcased the newly released line of inspiring fashions.

Many guests went home with winnings of gift baskets, gift certificates from CABI, handfuls of cash from the 50/50, the purchase of fresh flower centerpieces, and maybe a new friend or two. The cruise photo booth was a popular stop for shipmates, making memories that won’t fade into the sunset!

With the abundance of raffle and 50/50 ticket sales, the OWL organization was honored to present a generous donation to our designated charity, the Starbright Foundation, at the Feb. 16 luncheon.

Jan Maresh was also featured at the Feb. 16 luncheon, presenting “Thrifting—THE New Way to Shop.” Her presentation was accompanied by a mini trunk show as she showcased her custom designs by demonstrating how to turn castoffs into couture. Jan has authored 20 books, with the most recent being the 4th edition of Sewing for Dummies. The OWL ladies enjoyed her savvy on sewing, speaking, and everything in between.

The Monday, March 16, buffet luncheon will feature a menu of cranberry pecan salad, pork loin with maple glaze, mashed potatoes, and dessert. Entertainer Les Koel, who sings professionally at Legends Showcase dinner theater, will entertain us with a variety of musical favorites. Don’t forget to wear some green!

If you are a woman residing in the Ocotillo, Sun Lakes, or the Greater Chandler area and are interested in the Ocotillo Women’s League, we’d love to show you what we’re all about and meet you at one of our luncheons. Please contact membership@owlsgroup.org.
