Jewish War Veterans (JWV) Copper State Post 619 welcomes Michelle Jameson, executive director for U.S.VETS Phoenix, to speak on Sunday, Feb. 16. The meeting takes place in the Oakwood Country Club Ballroom, 24218 S. Oakwood Blvd. in Sun Lakes. A “Meet & Greet” with free lox and bagels, coffee, and doughnuts starts at 9:30 a.m., and the speaker follows at 10 a.m. All are welcome.

U.S.VETS Phoenix is dedicated to ending veteran homelessness and providing crucial support to those who have served our country. Their services include transitional housing, mental health counseling, career development, transportation, and case management. Weekly off-site activities such as sports games, gym sessions, community dinners, and events assist veterans with improving their quality of life and strengthening their independence. Additionally, U.S.VETS Phoenix manages Ashley’s Place, two five-bedroom homes specifically for female survivors of Military Sexual Trauma.

Michelle is excited to tell JWV about their U.S.VETS anticipated relocation in April to their new site at the Hawkins Veterans Center, situated off I-17 and Cactus. This facility will significantly expand their capacity to serve veterans in need. When its renovation is complete, the facility will include 103 single rooms, 47 doubles, and 13 female rooms, accommodating up to 163 veterans. Once completed, the new location will also feature a commercial kitchen, gym, and their popular clothing closet for free clothing and essential supplies, made possible through generous community donations.

“We’re especially grateful for the regular support we get from Post 619,” says Michelle. “Clothing drives like the one JWV held last month excite our veterans and keep our closet stocked. We are always open to contributions,” concludes the director.

Michelle will leave the February meeting with coffee for her vets, donated by the IronOaks community. Thanks to Stone & Barrel for partnering with JWV and offering a free beverage coupon in appreciation for coffee donations brought to their lobby. Those attending the JWV meeting will also be able to receive the coupon with their donation.

Michelle was recognized by the Senior White House Advisor to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs for her collaboration in the Military/Veteran Community Network. She is an accomplished and transformational leader in the nonprofit sector.

Her contributions throughout her remarkable career have garnered her numerous awards, including the 2020 Arizona Public Service Inspirational Leadership Award, Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition, and the 2018 Lincoln Award from the Southwest Veterans Chamber of Commerce.
