The Oakwood Ladies Golf Association held its Member-Guest on March 23 and 24. The theme, “Under the Big Top,” was received with great enthusiasm and 72 teams of ringmasters and clowns competed in the ring. This year’s chair, Leann Knox, added a horse race to the annual event. The horse race was well received and enjoyed by all. The horse race is a four-hole event held the evening before the Member-Guest which eliminates teams as each hole is played, until there is a winner. The next day was the Member-Guest followed by a luncheon and awards.
Some OLGA members participated in the Inaugural IronOaks Championship, 36-hole stroke play tournament. The tournament was open to both men and women residents of IronOaks. The first round was played at Ironwood on Saturday, March 28 and the second was played at Oakwood on Sunday, March 29. It was strictly a gross tournament, although flighted on the second day. A fun cookout followed the second round and prizes were awarded to the top third of the field. Congratulations to Janet Kellerher for capturing the Inaugural IronOaks Ladies’ championship. Sharon Bowditch was runner-up, followed by Mary Figgis and Lorraine Blair. We look forward to next year’s Championship and hope to have a greater participation from the ladies.
