Unity: calling out the good

Unity Church of Sun Lakes is a positive, inclusive and loving Spiritual community. We follow the teachings of Jesus as well as other spiritual masters. We live a health-centered lifestyle, and our prayers are affirmative. Our Sunday celebration is held at 9:30 a.m. in the Arts and Crafts Room at Sun Lakes Country Club. Our minister is Rev. Debbi Brown-Adams, and our music director is Francine Alexander. We invite you to join us for coffee and fellowship that follow the service.

The recent passing of Senator John McCain and his funeral gave Americans and the rest of the world a view of the life and values of a great man. He reached across the aisle for the last time when, just before his death, he asked past president Obama to be one of the people to give his eulogy. President Obama said that during his time at the White House, John had made many visits to discuss current issues, and they did not always agree, but they listened to each other respectfully and always parted as friends. Honesty, integrity and service were words used to describe Senator John McCain, a man of peace in the midst of a loud and divisive America.

Calling out the good, Lowell Fillmore, who lived from 1882-1975 and was the eldest son of Charles and Myrtle Fillmore, wrote in The Prayer Way to Health, Wealth and Happiness, “I am not suggesting we deny pain and suffering, but to call out the good in a circumstance or person means to see the inherent good, to see God in everything and everyone. This is done by asserting harmony with the truth that God is always in the midst of everyone and everything.”

Think about this – we could disagree agreeably and make America kind again.
