Unity Church of Sun Lakes is a successful and dynamic spiritual center

Rev. Debbi Brown

We begin our Sunday services after summer recess on September 4 at 9:30 a.m. in the Arts and Crafts Room of Sun Lakes Country Club. I am so excited to be back sharing divine messages on Sunday mornings with you.

We end every Sunday service by singing the Peace Song together. ‘Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me!’ These are profound words, ‘Let it begin with me!’ I must find and know the peace in my heart before I can extend it to the world.

This week I read an inspiring point of view about the differences we perceive, ‘The real differences in the world today are not between Jews and Arabs; Protestants and Catholics; Muslims and Serbs. The real differences are between those who embrace peace and those who would destroy it; between those who look to the future and those who cling to the past; between those who open their arms and those who are determined to clench their fists.’

These are profound words too. I can ask myself am I embracing peace or destroying it? Am I fighting with another, fault-finding, blaming, gossiping or hurtling insults? Or am I peaceful, loving, and kind because I truly understand that what I do to another I do to myself?

Am I an ambassador for peace or waging a war, even if that war is within my thoughts?

At Unity of Sun Lakes we teach how to discover that everlasting, transcendent peace within you. First we become quiet and still. Then we focus our mind on an affirmation such as ‘Peace be still.’ Quietly, calmly breathing in and out ‘Peace be still.’ The mind quiets, the body relaxes and the heart opens.

Once you find this wellspring of divine peace within you, you become an agent of change in this world. You bring the very healing that is most needed. Your evolved heart that knows the pure love of God is already aligned with world peace and harmony.

Mother Teresa said, “If we have no peace, it is because we have forgotten that we belong to each other.” We belong to each other! So this month let us remember, ‘If it is to be it is up to me. Peace begins with me.’ I heal the inner fighter in me that wants to lash out or hurt another. And as I do so, I become more peaceful and the world becomes more peaceful too.
