On Tuesday, November 11, Sun Lakes celebrated Veteran’s Day. The host was the Jewish War Veterans of Sun Lakes. Approximately 200 people attended. Jewish War Veterans Commander Ron Buckner opened the ceremonies by welcoming all the attendees.
The speaker was Colonel Joe Abodeely, President of the Arizona Military Museum. He spoke about the Vietnam veterans never being acknowledged for their service.
The Ambassadors sang several patriotic songs. Groups participating included the American Legion, Daughters of the American Revolution, Jewish War Veterans, East Valley Marines, Military Order of the Purple Heart, Korean War Veterans and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Each group presented a wreath in commemoration.
Rabbi Irwin Wiener, as Chaplain, gave the invocation and benediction; James Dupree, of the Air Force, representing Bugles Across America, played Taps; a rededication of the Veterans Pavilion by Sharon Horton, President of the Women’s Association of Sun Lakes; Posting of the Colors, led by Post Chief of Staff, Ken Baker and Color Guard consisting of Jeff Berke, Aaron Dolin, Marty Lebowitz, Sid Reiff, Elliott Reiss and Ed Weintraub.
Sun Lakes Country Club donated refreshments and beverages for all those who attended.
