The Weeders Garden Club meets monthly to learn from informative speakers on all aspects of gardening. We also enjoy field trips to interesting places in the Valley. Whether you are new to garden clubs or have spent your life interested in growing things, we welcome you!
The speaker for our Nov. 14 meeting will be Steve Sheard who will present “Roses in the Arizona Climate.” Steve is a Master Rosarian with the American Rose Society and a member of the Mesa East Valley Rose Society, Chairman of the MCC Rose Garden, and a member of Desert Designers. Steve was born and raised in Zimbabwe around roses and fruit trees. They moved to Tempe in 1980, and that first year, he planted 20 roses and 18 died. He learned that gardening in the desert is very different! Today he has about 150 rose bushes and does seminars on growing roses and fruit trees and on budding and grafting.
Mark your calendars for Nov. 15 and 16 and visit us at our fundraising garage sale, held at 864 W. Beechnut Drive, Chandler. Funds raised at our annual sale go towards special projects, such as the maintenance and care of the gardens around McCroskey House in Tumbleweed Park, Chandler. We also installed and now maintain the Pollinator Garden in front of the house. Take a walk through our gardens!
Weeders Garden Club meetings are the second Thursday of every month from September through May in the Navajo Room at Sun Lakes Country Club, 25425 S. Sun Lakes Blvd. Social time begins at 9:30 a.m., and meetings start at 10 a.m. Please join us!
