The Weeders Garden Club held their holiday luncheon for the second time at Old Spaghetti Factory located at the Fashion Mall in Chandler. We also brought unwrapped gifts, monetary donations and gift cards to be given to My Sister’s Place, one of our club supported charities. Everyone had a great time, a winning combination of good company and good food. Now is the time for us to get focused on our gardens, our plants, bushes and trees and the business of our club.
On February 12, our club will be attending the 13th annual Running of the Gourds Wuertz Farm Festival at Pinal Fairgrounds in Casa Grande. We have attended this festival in other years and have several club members who are gourd artists and enter the competition. There will be 100 gourd artists and vendors, an Arizona Gourd Society’s judged show, non-stop live musical entertainment and thousands of dried gourds for sale, plus much more. Come join us at our regular scheduled meeting on February 11 and attend the festival with us the next day. The 13th annual Running of the Gourds Wuertz Farm Festival will be held on February 12, 13 and 14. Times are Friday and Saturday from 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. and Sunday from 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. Admission is $8 (kids are free).
We have several more field trips scheduled for this club’s regular season and they promise to be very fun and informative events!
The Weeders Garden Club meets the second Thursday of each month, September through May, in the Navajo Room at Sun Lakes Country Club in Sun Lakes. Treats and coffee are served beginning at 9:30 a.m. and the business meeting is from 10:00 a.m.-noon. There is an interesting speaker and a horticulture presentation each meeting as well as a club money-making raffle, too!
Membership is open to everyone. Although field trips are reserved for members, anyone interested in attending a meeting is welcome.
