On October 30 the Weeders ventured to Leaf and Feather Farm, www.LeafandFeatherFarm.com, a nursery aviary located at 50598 W. Mayer, Maricopa, AZ. Every plant, tree and cacti is hand-picked and home-grown in Arizona to ensure the best quality and price. The nursery aviary is maintained by owner/operators, Bob and Dan, who are the most helpful and knowledgeable nursery folks I have met in many trips to various nurseries. They are very honest and will advise you on selections made of shrubs, plants, trees and cacti with a little background from you, the buyer, as to a description of what part of your yard you wish to enhance and how the light strikes a particular area. An amazing fact is the price marked on the container or sign is exactly what you will pay because the tax is paid by Leaf and Feather Farm. The hours from October through April are 7:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. and they are open Friday, Saturday and Sunday only. The Feather part of the business includes many macaws, Amazon parrots, Alexandrine parrots, Indian ring necks, cockatiels, parakeets, finches, peacocks and racing pigeons. Bob and Dan state the best accompaniment to a gorgeous landscape is a majestic variety of bird species. It is obvious from seeing several families visiting with children that many families bring their children to visit the birds and it is not necessarily the first visit.
We went to the Raceway Bar and Grille owned by Rand and Jeanna DelCotta, 49237 West Papago Road in Maricopa, AZ. This fun family restaurant has a variety of menu items offered as well as a lot of collectibles to view and was featured on a segment of American Pickers about four years ago.
Our annual Weeders Garage Sale fundraiser is scheduled for November 20-21 from 7:00a.m.-3:00 p.m. each day at the home of Beth Kirkpatrick, 864 W. Beechnut Drive, Chandler, Arizona. Come early to get your best purchase choices!
The Weeders Garden Club meets the second Thursday of each month, September through May, in the Navajo Room at Sun Lakes Country Club in Sun Lakes.
