The Sun Lakes Wood Carvers meet year-round at Cottonwood in the Ceramics Room. The group of carvers graciously welcomes anyone who wishes to give this art form a try. It might just capture your heart and spirit and cause one to explore the myriad of possibilities. Some have discovered that it is such an enjoyment, they never stop chipping away.
One example of this is Bill Andreas who lives in Ironwood. Bill is 97 years old (or young — certainly young at heart), and I understand that his picture was in the Splash as a wood carver in a 1997 edition. He has an extensive and beautiful collection of Native American kachinas he has designed, painted and displayed or shared with family members. Bill is starting a new one and truly enjoys the company of fellow artistic men and women.
If you have an interest in carving or have experience and want to continue creating fun, useful and interesting wood designs, just stop by on Thursday mornings. We meet at 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. It is inexpensive to start, and there are no club fees or cost to join. For more information, call Wally Jasien at 480-895-8281 or Margaret Ryan at 480-802-6535.
