Welcome on Board

Richard Volpe

The Desert Navy continues to look forward to a year filled with excitement and adventure as we move on a little further into the new year. Our plans are to attempt to have a guest speaker available whenever possible to help us all stay current with benefits that are available for those who have served. Many thanks go out to Carl Forkner of the DAV for his fine presentation at our previous meeting. Our meetings are held on the third Friday of the month starting at 11 a.m. in the Lakeview Room, which is located in the SunBird Community Center.

All members of the Navy, Marines, Coast Guard, and Merchant Marines are always welcome. As a bonus, early arrivals may be able to share some conversation, along with a cup of coffee, water, and a variety of pastries, when available. Our next meeting is scheduled for March 17.

Our club’s primary goal is to provide support to those veterans and others who are in need. Our club maintains several storage facilities where we have a variety of medical supplies and an assortment of equipment that can be obtained in a short amount of time for those needing support. This is all only a phone call away, whether it be from an unexpected emergency or, in some cases, an item that may help improve a person’s quality of life for a longer period of time.

One of the major achievements that left us feeling good this past year was having the ability to team up with another service organization here locally, allowing us to provide a large number of motorized electric scooters to those requiring support to help with their long-term disabilities.

Meetings typically run an hour and, in most cases, with a restaurant on the same premises, several members stay for lunch, affording a great opportunity to get to know each other better and possibly share past experiences.

If you have any questions regarding our club’s activities or if you’re looking for more details on issues that may be of interest to you, please feel free to give Rich Volpe a call. He can be reached at 480-802-2532. I’m sure he will be willing to help in any way he can.
