Jana Greene
Hello! My name is Jana and I love to sing. I always have. I have always sung in the car, in the shower, in the kitchen, wherever. Some of my fondest memories are those of my mom singing to me as a young child. I learned some of the tunes from the classic musicals and other beloved songs from the ‘30s, ‘40s and ‘50s. My grandmother was even a member of the Sweet Adelines, a women-only barbershop group, in California. I never gave much thought to the fact that music was simply in my blood.
Unfortunately, I was never brave enough to get up in front of people and sing. But a few years back, here in Sun Lakes, I attended a luncheon where a wonderful ladies’ singing group performed. I enjoyed listening to them so much I couldn’t help singing along. After the performance I went up to one of the ladies and asked about joining. The rest, as they say, is history!
I joined the Chordaires Show Chorus of Sun Lakes and so can you. I have had such a wonderful time singing, forming new friendships and learning about music and the craft of four-part harmony barbershop style. I don’t read music (but learning as I go!) so it has been a real learning experience, but not overwhelming for me. Music and singing is wonderful for your physical and your mental health and there so many studies that have proven this to be true (including my own experience!). It helps with memory, breathing and gives you amazing sense of well-being.
If you love to sing as much as I do, why not come visit one of our practices? Contact our Membership Chair Diana Perez at [email protected]; phone 480-726-2389. We practice on Monday late afternoons and we would love to have you join us. All of our rehearsals are open to newcomers and all of our members have a mentoring spirit to ensure everyone feels comfortable. As I said in the beginning, I love to sing and am so happy to have found the Chordaires. Join us?
