The month of November is the start of all the good things that happen as we approach the ending of a challenging 2020. With Thanksgiving just around the corner, it is a time when friends and family have the opportunity to enjoy many happy moments together, as we prepare for the new year. Things will really come to life with all the festivities being planned for the upcoming days and, of course, the shopping sprees on Black Friday which will be hard to resist.
I believe most of us were hoping that, by now, the coronavirus would be under control and our lives would be moving forward in a positive direction. Like most clubs in the area, the Short Line Model Railroad Club has been in a “holding pattern” since late February, when the coronavirus situation first came into play. In September, we did start opening things up a little, holding our monthly meetings once again. Also, we have had small groups meet for lunch at a reduced frequency to keep abreast of any new activities going on locally or around the Valley. In all cases, we did follow all the regulations in place regarding the use of masks and adequate social distancing. Like everybody else, we are anxious to return to somewhat normal terms, but not at the risk of having our club members vulnerable to excessive exposure. We did have some opportunities that were initially offered, but whether these will become a reality is yet to be seen.
In closing, once again, I’d like to welcome back all who are returning from their other localities, and wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving. This is the season to be merry, as we move on to the end of the year with all the holiday festivities and holiday decorations that will soon be lining the streets, as well as all the malls and businesses around town. Enjoy every moment of it. If you have any questions regarding our club, I can be reached by email at [email protected], or by phone at 480-802-4976.
