You Can Support Rotary Club of Sun Lakes Service Projects

Dr. Honora Norton, RCSL Public Image Chair

Rotary Club of Sun Lakes (RCSL) has many ongoing community service projects that you can support, such as:

* Got shoes? Sneakers are being collected for domestic violence families.

* Got plastic bottle caps? Plastic bottle caps are being collected and recycled into building materials that are sold to benefit children with cancer.

* Got plastic bags? Plastic grocery bags are being collected, recycled, and woven into sleeping mats for the homeless.

* Got unused electronic equipment? Project is sponsored by RCSL and assisted by Sun Lakes Computer Booters and partnering with AZStRUT. On Nov. 5 from 8 a.m. to noon, you can drop off computers, laptops and accessories, iPads, cell phones, flat panel TVs/monitors, printers, cables, power supplies, DVD players, VCR players, and calculators at 25601 S. Sun Lakes Blvd., the Sun Lakes Phase 1 parking lot. Donated electronics will be recycled or refurbished for use by Arizona schools or non-profits.

* Got furniture and/or household goods in almost-new shape? Donated like-new furniture, household supplies, and appliances will be collected and delivered to Welcome to America Project refugee family homes within the Valley.

* Want to host a foreign professional? Council of International Programs (CIP) Phoenix is hosting delegations of professional leaders from various countries, who have undergone a competitive process to participate, for educational tours and foreign professional training programs. CIP is looking for homestay host families, drivers, and volunteers. These programs, administered and sometimes funded by the U.S. Department of State, encourage learning and understanding between U.S. citizens and people from around the world. Participants have their own incidental funds and medical insurance. To learn more, see or contact Stacy Moreno at 480-427-6204.

Additionally, RCSL is planning future community service projects and club events, such as:

* Dictionaries will be gifted and delivered to over 3,000 3rd grade students within 35 Chandler School District schools. RCSL started this project in 2003.

* Club’s 29th Annual Golf Tournament and Fundraiser is scheduled for March 11, 2023, at Sun Lakes Oakwood Country Club. An early morning golf scramble is followed by lunch and awards, as well as live and silent auctions.

* The Dolly Parton Imagination Library is a book-gifting program. RCSL will pay for the costs involved for gifting eligible children an age-appropriate book a month sent directly to the child from the Dollywood Foundation. The benefits to this early-childhood educational opportunity to children is immeasurable. RCSL began its support in May of 2019 with a focus centered on the Arizona Guadalupe community with a 6,597 population.

* As well as many more community service projects that impact students, teachers, veterans, those in need, and a wide variety of Valley non-profit organizations.

If you can help or want more information about the above projects, see or contact Club President Stephen Phair at 480-593-5377.
