The Southeast branch of the American Association of University Women awarded a $1,000 scholarship to Basha High School graduate Diana Tran. Diana will be studying biomedical engineering at Barrett, the Honors College at ASU. She has already earned many college credits at Chandler-Gilbert Community College and hopes to earn a B.S. in two years. After that she will either work on her Ph.D. or go to medical school to become a doctor in a neonatal unit.

AAUW wants to acknowledge the role of Chandler Education Foundation (CEF). AAUW raises the funds for the AAUW scholarship, establishes the criteria and helps with the selection. AAUW members Kris Eikelberger, Ellen Peck and Jan Bobbett worked with CEF and other volunteers in making the selection.

Since 1881, The American Association of University Women (AAUW) advances equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy and research. AAUW has a nationwide network of more than 100,000 members and donors, 1,000 branches and 600 college/university institutional partners. One of the world’s largest sources of funding for graduate women, AAUW provided more than $4.3 million in the 2012-2013 academic year.

The AAUW invites all who hold an associate or higher degree from an accredited college or university to join. For further information on this program or membership go to http://southeastvalley-az.aauw.net/.
