African American Association of Sun Lakes Holds Annual Christmas Dinner Dance

Sandra Humes, Publicity

On Dec. 7, 2019, over 100 members and friends of the African American Association of Sun Lakes enjoyed an evening full of fun, friendship, and fellowship as they celebrated their annual Christmas Dinner Dance. The party was held in the Oakwood ballroom where the intimate crowd was thoroughly entertained by the local band, Silhouette. Silhouette kept the crowd excited and delighted as they grooved to solid R&B hits. There was also a D.J. who played music during the cocktail hour and filled in during band breaks. His playlist included R&B, Smooth Jazz, and Christmas Oldies.

The crowd enjoyed lots of line dancing, freestyling, a conga line, Chicago stepping (Sun Lakes style), and several Soul Train lines throughout the evening. There was also a door prize and a 50/50 Raffle.

The buffet-style dinner was delicious and thoroughly met expectations. Thank you to John Appling, chairperson, and his committee: Betty Scott, Sam and Gwen Rogers, Jesse Washington, and Anne Livingston, and to all those who attended this wonderful event.

The next A.A.A.S.L event, “Jazz in the Park,” will be held on April 25, 2020, at Tumbleweed Park under the shaded McDowell Mountain Pavilion. For more details, please contact A.A.A.S.L. at 480-882-3477 or email [email protected].
