The Sun Lakes Agave Quilt Guild will host antique quilt expert Shirley Weagant on October 7, 2015, in the Oakwood Ballroom at 1:00 p.m. Shirley, will be doing an “old fashioned bed turning” of her extensive vintage quilt collection. Shirley is a recognized professional in this area and will be also be lecturing on the care and conservation of antique quilts while she shows us her collection. Shirley is also involved in documenting the story behind the quilts in her collection and feels that every quilt, old or new, antique or modern, deserves preservation of its history for the future. All quilts have a story to tell and antique quilts tell the story (history) of the women who made them and their families. Please come and bring your own antique quilts to share with others at the meeting. All Agave monthly get-togethers from September through May begin at 1:00 p.m. with a business meeting followed by a short break, followed by our guest speaker. If you live in the Sun Lakes area come and join us; we are the best quilt guild around. We have wonderful speakers, classes and presentations as well as a fabulous annual Quilt Show in the spring. Current members should keep working on the 2016 President’s Challenge: “What’s black and white and red all over?” plus the addition of other colors as well. Remember, these small quilts must fit in a 24 X 24 inch space and be ready to hang. Winners will receive substantial monetary awards and be auctioned off to raise funds for the 2017 Quilt Show. Agave is also still looking for a few more volunteers for the current year, especially in the area of Programs so if you can help, it will be greatly appreciated by the Agave Board. Hope to see all Agave quilters at the very next meeting,  October 7 at 1:00 p.m.
