The September 1 Computer Booter meeting was a great success. Nancy Roberts of the Community Assistance Program (CAP) educated us on the medical flash drives being sold by the Sun Lakes Fire Department and Allan Levy discussed external file storage options.

The flash drives contain your emergency medical and contact information. Forms are pre-loaded, low cost and easy to load. Simply fill them out and keep the drive with you. Check The Splash for information regarding dates and times to set up an appointment with a CAP representative at 895-9343 if you need help putting the information in the forms.

If you are interested in satellites and rockets, then you need to be at the October 6 meeting. It will showcase William Tully, Senior Security Manager of Orbital ATK/Launch Vehicles Division. This is the satellite company located near Intel, not our local cable company.

William holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Education, majoring in Management of Information Systems. He also holds security certificates through the Defense Security Service, Defense Intelligence Agency and the National Security Agency. William will give an overview of Orbital and also discuss Operational Security. Sounds like an educational, exciting and fun evening!

October classes include Facebook on Saturday, October 3 from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. See what the kids are doing — learn to use Facebook. Register with Sue at 480-895-3528 so she can distribute booklets. Note the special day and time.

Check out Microsoft Word facilitated by Clark Wells on Wednesday, October 14 and 21. Walk through MS Word from the beginning and finish with topics of interest. We might have a surprise guest instructor if she can get time off.

Windows 10, led by Allan Levy on Mondays, October 19 and 26. Should you take advantage of Microsoft’s offer of a free upgrade from Windows 7/8/8.1 to Windows 10? Come to Allan’s class and learn what the experts say.

All classes are free for members and $10 for non-members. They are held in the Arts & Crafts Room in Sun Lakes One from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Always bring your laptop; electricity is available. Remember to wear your Booters badge.

The Computer Booters will participate in two Open Houses: October 17, 9:00 a.m. to noon at Cottonwood/Palo Verde and October 31, 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at IronOaks. Stop by our table to learn about the Computer Booters. Fill out a membership form there on our website, www.computerbooters.org or come to the October 6 meeting to pick one up.

If you have a computer, smart phone or other technical device and have questions about them, join the Booters. Meetings are the first Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. in the Navajo Room at Sun Lakes One. Membership is open to everyone, regardless of where you live and is $36 for one person in a household and $48 for two people in the same household. Your first meeting is free. Membership questions can be directed to Clark Wells at 602-391-4653, [email protected].
