Our final dance of the season was the “Get a Spring in Your Step” dinner dance held on Saturday, April 9. Everyone had a great time dancing to Rich Howard’s Orchestra. The featured dance was the Tango and many of the members who had been practicing during the prior week showed off their skills. We also had professional dancers from the Fred Astaire Chandler Studio demonstrate their championship style. Great dancing! We will have more to say about the last dance in the next Splash issue.
We had so much fun Puttin’ on the Ritz last month. Many memorable moments were captured. As you can see in this month’s highlight photo, Michael and Sheila Petriello were ready to start dancing the instant they entered the Ballroom. As Michael and Sheila demonstrate, the entire membership got in the swing of period appropriate attire, including arriving in top hats, spats, canes and gloves for the guys and dazzling gowns for the gals. As they arrived at the venue, every attendee was transported to a ballroom situated on the bank of the Hudson River overlooking the Manhattan skyline on a warm spring evening.
Once there, we were able to take each couple’s photo from the ballroom balcony. The champagne served with shrimp and salmon hors d’oeuvres accompanied by the piano playing by Richard Palalay during the pre-dance cocktail party continued to build an expectation of a great evening to come. The Lyn Jackson Ensemble provided a great selection of period appropriate music. It was their first appearance at one of our dances and they did a great job. We are looking forward to another great performance next season.
The 2016/2017 season starts in October. Members are encouraged to send in their annual dues prior to May 31 to avoid late fees. Our dance schedule for next year is Saturdays beginning at 5:45 p.m. in the Oakwood Ballroom – October 8, November 5, January 14, 2017, February 4, 2017, March 11, 2017 and April 8, 2017. We are interviewing prospective board members for next season. If you are interested in serving the club in any capacity please contact us.
