We are gearing up for our winter session of competitive and enjoyable tennis at the Cottonwood Tennis Club! As our members begin to drift back to the southwest, the intensity of our CTC activities ratchets up to accommodate their enthusiasm for tennis. This is a club organized and run by its members and without our volunteering it could not be successful! Year after year we set the benchmark for such a club, as the percentage of members contributing increases.

The men’s summer league finishes in September. This was not a team league, as is usual, but rather an individual competition with a unique format. Once again Dag Grudem was the league director with Bob Heichelbech helping out. Winners will be revealed in the next month’s court report.

Our last summer social was held on September 30. Al Wagner organized this event. Everyone who participated had a terrific time. It was enjoyable to play some tennis in cooler weather again.

To officially start our fall/winter tennis, the CTC kicks off with our eleventh annual Rainbow Classic Tournament on October 9 and 10. Each of the teams will be designated a color name and have all ability levels of players. New partners are arranged daily. Matches will be gender doubles and mixed doubles. It is a fun format and a great social mixer event! All Cottonwood Tennis club members are invited to sign up for this lively, social club tournament. Thanks go to Sherri and Dave Butler for organizing this club event and to Marie Hargus for planning and serving food to participants.

October 17 is the Open House event at Cottonwood. Please look for our CTC table to learn more about our club. In addition, on this date IronOaks Tennis Club will hold a social for the participation of all Sun Lakes clubs. Sign-ups will be posted at the clubs.

Our Welcome Back/Kick-Off the winter season dinner and meeting will be on October 26 at Palo Verde. Sign-up sheets will be on the tennis board. Thanks again to Sherri and Dave Butler for being in charge of arranging this event.

October 31 will find us hosting SLCC for our first interclub tennis competition/social. Ernie Soczka is arranging the matches and Roseanne Soczka is planning the food for that social. On the same day some of our players will play in a Sunbird/CTC social at SunBird. By having both of these events on the same day more of our many players will be able to participate.

Please mark your calendar for the Bradshaw Tennis Tournament which will be from November 8 to 14 this year. This is open to all Sun Lakes and Sunbird residents only. This is a gender doubles tournament. Sign up now!

The Cottonwood Tennis Club is comprised of six board members and over 170 volunteers to manage over 7000 hours of individual play for members. Please visit our fabulous website at www.cottonwoodtennisclub.com for complete information and photos of our tennis club.
