Join us on Monday, August 10 at 7:00 p.m. in the Navajo Room of the Sun Lakes Country Club, 25601 Sun Lakes Boulevard. Our guest speaker will be Terry Goddard.
Terry Godard was born and raised in Tucson. In 1976, after serving an active duty tour in the US Navy, he earned a law degree from ASU and worked as a private attorney in the Attorney General’s office. In 1984, after gaining a greater voice for minorities in Phoenix city elections, Terry was elected mayor of Phoenix and served for six years. From 1995 to 2002, he was Director of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. He then ran as a clean election candidate and was elected Attorney General and then was reelected in 2006 with 60 percent of the votes.
Terry was the Democratic candidate for Secretary of State in 2014 and is currently leading a campaign against dark money in elections. At our meeting he will explain the progress of his campaign and explain how we can be involved in fighting back against this disastrous decision by the U.S. Supreme Court.
At all club meetings, non-perishable food items are collected for the Matthew’s Crossing Food Bank. Collections take place in the west parking lot from 6:30-7:00 p.m. There is also a collection box at the north entrance of the Sun Lakes Sunset Grill lobby. Thanks to your generosity the total collected during 2014 was 1,880 lbs. of food and $170. Through June 2015 the total was 1,202 lbs. of food and $160.00. Thank you, Sun Lakes Democrats!
Everyone is welcome at Sun Lakes Democratic Club meetings which are always on the second Monday of each month. Refreshments are served. For more information call Tom Amrhein at 480-895-1162.
