As September slowly introduces us to our eagerly awaited cooler fall weather, we embrace the return of outdoor activities, like a trip to the Farmers Markets here in our community and in our neighborhoods close by. Painting is one way to express our feelings of gratitude and recreate on canvas that which we love and appreciate. And it is fun to work on our projects with other artists. That’s why we have the Desert Artists Club (DAC).
Summer’s record heat had its challenges for our club when the air conditioning conked out and we headed to our room, only to find no one there and the room slowly getting too warm. Fortunately, everything is working well now, and we have a comfortable and inviting space in which to create. Thanks for your patience!
The Desert Artists Club meets each Tuesday afternoon between 3 and 6 p.m. in the Ceramics Room (A-8) in Cottonwood. We come together to be with other artists and work on our own art projects. We bring our own supplies and work in our own mediums, some of which are oils, acrylics, watercolors, charcoal, colored pencils, and mixed media. We have artists of all levels, from beginner to advanced. Some of our members have taught art, and some take lessons online. But we all enjoy creating together and inspiring each other. We are a casual club with no regular meetings and no dues. Artists or wannabe artists in any of the three HOAs of Sun Lakes may join. We have social times on occasion, and you will see some members participating in the Art at the Lakes event every March.
So, if you are new to Sun Lakes or have thought you might want to check out our club, feel free to stop in and check us out. You may find it will be just right for you. You may also contact me with questions at [email protected] or call and leave a message at 480-745-2198.
You may also check out our club at the Oct. 5 Cottonwood Open House between 9 a.m. and noon, in the San Tan Ballroom at our table.
