Denise Lott

Each year, the East Valley Marines, Detachment 1296, awards a scholarship to a graduating senior who is involved with the Marines JROTC program at Vista Grande High School in Casa Grande. The scholarship for $1000 is based on the recommendations of the JROTC instructors who evaluate grades, community involvement and military bearing.

This year, Hannah Pena was the recipient. Dave Lott and John Van Houten traveled to Casa Grande in April to participate in this annual Marine Corps JROTC Awards Night.

Several of these high school students come to Sun Lakes each year to take part in the ceremonies at the November Marine Corps Birthday Ball. They also often participate in the Sun Lakes Memorial Day services.
