Welcome back to all new and current members of The Fun Lakers Club. Our fall season is now in full swing. Trivia Night on September 10 was a huge success with great food and very competitive teams! The scores were so close until the final bonus question about the ‘60s. Here is a variation of the bonus question. Let’s see how well you do, because no team at Trivia Night got the bonus question right.
Put these events in chronological order from the earliest to the latest: (a) Johnny Cash appears at Folsom Prison; (b) the Summer of Love in San Francisco; (c) Monty Python’s Flying Circus debuts in the United States, and (d) Hasbro launches the GI JOE action figure.
Our next event will take place on October 15 when FLC co-hosts a German Fest with the Corvette Club on the Palo Verde patio. The fest includes live music by the Candlelight Combo. Open bar is at 5:00 p.m., with dinner at 6:00 p.m. A close up of a beautiful collaborative piece created by two of our members, the mother–daughter team of Lee-Anne Heise and our secretary Lynn Heise O-Malia, referenced by a Native American war shirt. Just beautiful work!
Music and dancing will follow. The cost is $17.50 for members and $22.50 for nonmembers. The registration deadline is October 7. All members receive the flyer and registration form by email. Nonmembers can access the FLC website, www.funlakers.org, to print out the form.
On November 19, please join FLC for an evening of improvisation provided by the ImproVables. This local troupe creates their improvisations by making up scenes on the spot, based on suggestions and ideas from the audience. You may even get a chance to participate in this fast-paced, live show. The event will be held in the Arizona Room at the Sun Lakes Country Club. Cash bar opens at 6:00 p.m. The show begins at 7:00 p.m. Members: $15, nonmembers: $20. The registration deadline is November 11.
Our fall calendar wouldn’t be complete without highlighting the FLC annual Holiday Dinner Dance on December 10 in the San Tan Ballroom at Cottonwood Country Club. The featured band for the evening will be Chuck E. Baby and the Allstars, voted the best party band in Arizona! It will be quite a special holiday event for all Fun Lakers, so be sure to save the date.
Looking ahead to 2017, the FLC activities committee is already planning a variety of fun events, including Western Night, a ‘60s Homecoming Dance, and a Progressive Dinner. Members are always welcome to volunteer for any of the events and we welcome new ideas for future activities.
For additional information regarding all of FLC’s events or to become a member, check out our website at www.funlakers.org, and/or visit one of the Sun Lakes Open Houses during the month of October. If you join this fall your membership to FLC will last through all of 2017.
Fun Lakers Club is all about creating and fostering new and lasting friendships and, of course, having fun! We hope to see you at any and all of our future events.
