Already know who you’re going to vote for in November but confused by the various propositions and initiatives that will also be appearing on this year’s ballot? If your answer was a resounding yes, then plan on attending the Sun Lakes Democratic Club’s (SLDC) Sept. 9 meeting at the Sun Lakes Country Club.
“This year’s ballot will be two pages long, front and back, so we want to provide our club members with some guidance of what they’ll be seeing and are being asked to decide,” said SLDC President Cathy Hendricks, noting that propositions are the laws that the legislature is referring to voters to pass or defeat, while initiatives are the citizen-led laws that voters will decide.
In addition to information on the propositions and initiatives, club members will also have an opportunity to meet and ask questions of several candidates, including Gregory Freeman, Democratic candidate for Maricopa County Assessor. Freeman’s background in the real estate business with MPB Realty Services makes him a good fit for the position that involves handling the 1.8 million personal and personal property parcels/accounts with a cash value of more than $717 billion.
Legislative candidate speakers will feature Sharon Winters, Democratic candidate for AZ Senate, LD 13. Winters, a retired teacher with degrees from Illinois State and the University of Texas, will discuss her platform on women’s rights, voter rights, and public education.
Rounding out the candidates for the AZ House, LD 13, are Brandy Reese and Nicholas Gonzales. Reese, a Chandler resident and graduate of Oklahoma University in forensic science, will discuss her platform, which includes public education and women’s rights. Gonzales, a graduate of Chandler High and ASU, grew up in Chandler and is now an urban planner and business owner in Chandler. His platform includes women’s reproductive rights, public education, and affordable housing.
Democrats running for the Chandler Unified School (CUSD) sharing their views that evening will include Barb Mozdzem, Zeyna Pruzhanovsky, and Claudia Mendoza. They will discuss the importance of good governance in this district, the number-one rated school district in Arizona.
SLDC is made up of like-minded individuals, part of over 2,500 registered Democrats throughout the Sun Lakes area promoting an Arizona that works for everyone. We invite you to join us at 6:30 p.m. for a social hour, with the meeting starting at 7 p.m. on Sept. 9 in the Navajo Room at the Sun Lakes Country Club, located at 25601 E. Sun Lakes Blvd. N, in Sun Lakes.
We also invite you to join us at 10 a.m. for our First Friday Coffee on the first Friday of every month at Kneaders Bakery on West Queen Creek Road in Chandler. SLDC will also be sponsoring a candidate forum at the Sun Lakes Country Club (see the ad in this newspaper for details) on Sept. 29.
