The Lucky Shot Pool Club wrapped up another successful season with its annual spring awards meeting April 15 at the Cottonwood Country Club.
Club President Gary Vacin welcomed the members and thanked them for their support during the year.
Club Treasurer Roy Partridge reported that the club was in sound shape financially and that names of 2015-16 club championship winners have been added to champions’ plaques in the Cottonwood Pool Room.
Tournament Director Steve Colby announced the following tournament results: 2015-16 club champions: Jack Hill in 9-Ball and Jerry Cisneros in 8-Ball. Cisneros accomplished the rare feat of winning the fall, winter and spring tourneys. Also announced were spring tournament winners: 9-Ball, pocket one, Jack Hill; 8-Ball, pocket one, Jerry Cisneros; 8-Ball, pocket two, Michael O’Rourke; 8-Ball, pocket three, Ed Allen; 8-Ball, pocket four, Alan Behr; 8-Ball pocket five, Hal Mahaffey.
The club approved rules changes allowing a player to play in both 8-Ball and 9-Ball tournaments during the same season as long as the player pays entry fees for both 8-Ball and 9-Ball; and changing matches in pocket two of 8-Ball from Race to five back to five games.
The club discussed ways to increase membership and voted to open membership to players residing outside the Sun Lakes community and reaffirmed the previous arrangement allowing women to join the club.
The following officers for 2016-17 were elected unanimously: Gary Vacin, president; Roy Partridge, treasurer; Steve Colby, tournament director; and Larry Stadler, member-at-large.
Now in its 21st year, the Lucky Shot Pool Club offers local pool players the opportunity to enjoy competition in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere at the Cottonwood Pool Room featuring four four and one-half by nine-foot tournament-quality tables. Five tournaments are held each year in both 8-Ball and 9-Ball, running from June 1 to July 10, August 1 to September 10, November 1 to December 10, January 1 to February 10 and March 1 to April 10.
Membership is open for play in all five tournaments. Interested persons may contact Gary Vacin, club president at 480-298-7017 or Steve Colby, tournament director at 839-6125.
