Our participants are used to entertainers and visitors but not the furry four-legged variety. We all had quite a surprise when in popped three therapy dogs and their owners. Each dog spent time with the individual participant being held and petted. And then the fun started. The dogs played together while interacting with each of us. Much to our delight they twirled, jumped, rolled over and played with their toys. We had our very own doggy three ring circus. Just before they left we got great pics of our participants holding the dogs.

And our director, Judy Waltersdorf, was right out there with the volunteers watching in amazement how comfortably the participants interacted with the dogs. They seemed to forget even for a short time the fear, confusion and loneliness of their condition. The dogs seemed to bring out the “kid” in all of us.

The Perfect Place is located on the campus of Risen Savior Lutheran Church in Sun Lakes. We are a non-profit faith based adult care center. Our volunteers are knowledgeable of Alzheimer’s, dementia, developmental disabilities and various adult neurological challenges. Most of us have had a loved one for which we were a caregiver. We enjoy what we do.
